By giving up a few hours of sleep, we have gained so much from our work with Back on my Feet and look forward to more amazing experiences in the future.

Big Brother Ceremony: October 9th 2014

On the night of October 9th, 2014, the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta conducted a Big Brother Ceremony for our newest associate members. Six families within our chapter grew this night and the continuation of their family lineage was secured.  After the formal ceremony came to an end and each big brother fastened an associate member pin on their respective little brother, the celebration began.  This ceremony is especially important to our fraternity because it signifies the continuation of our great chapter.  Each associate member became a part of family trees that date back to the founders of the Pennsylvania Iota chapter of Phi Kappa Theta.  These men are the chosen future for our chapter and that was made clear through the rituals of the Big Brother Ceremony.

Movember Can Shake: November 5th, 2014

On Wednesday, November 5th, the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta gathered around Alumni Circle on Temple University's Liacouras Walk to raise money for the Movember Foundation.  The Movember Foundation is a global organization dedicated to improving the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues through the power of the mustache.  For several years, Phi Kappa Theta has made a Movember team with the goal of raising funds for this organization, and we hope to make Movember 2014 our best year yet.  Our recent can shake was incredibly successful and we even had the help of our school's mascot, Hooter the Owl.  We are very proud to be a part of this movement and will dedicate our capabilities in the month of November to raising money and awareness for this serious cause

Quo Vadis Camping Trip: October 17th, 2014

On Friday, October 17th, the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta ventured from the City of Brotherly Love to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for our Quo Vadis.  After classes were over we piled into our cars for the two hour journey to our campsite on the Appalachian Trail.  Upon arrival we set up camp, started the fire, and broke out the hot dogs to start our great night.  The fire burned throughout the night along with story telling, laughing, and bonding until we were eventually interupted by the sunrise. Quo Vadis is a Latin phrase meaning "Where are you going?" and this camping trip gave all of the participating brothers a sense of the great places our chapter is going.

Back On My Feet Track Meet: October 16th, 2014

On Thursday, October 16th, brothers Sam Huntington, Frank Lo, and Justin Discigil represented Phi Kappa Theta at the Back On My Feet Track Meet.  Back On My Feet is a national for-purpose organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living.  The track meet consisted of three events: the mile, the two-mile, and the distance medley relay, which is the event our brothers competed in.  Phi Kappa Theta placed second in the distance medley relay finishing only behind the Temple Running Club.  We are greatful to have had the privelage of participating in this event and we are excited for our future events with Back On My Feet.

Block Clean-up & BBQ with Phi Sigma Sigma:

October 4th 2014

The brothers of Phi Kappa Theta teamed up with our neighbors across the street, Phi Sigma Sigma, to do our part in keeping our community clean.  Equiped with brooms, trash bags, and gloves, Phi Kaps and Phi Sigs took to the streets in epic fashion to tidy up the block.  After the trash bags were filled and the nneighborhood was garbage-free it was time for the BBQ.  The grills were fired up, the music was turned up, and the Phi Kap BBQ special of burgers and hot dogs were served to everyone who took time out of their Saturday for a little community service.

Fall 2014 Rush: September 10th-19th, 2014

Fall 2014 Rush kicked off as usual with our backyard BBQ.  Once the grill was fired up and the burgers and dogs were thrown on, future Phi Kaps started filling up the fraternity house to enjoy good food and meet all of the current brothers of Phi Kappa Theta.  A few days later in the week, we got a good look at the future of our intramural football team as rain did not stop current brothers and rushes from playing football on the turf.  Finally, Fall '14 Rush came to an end on Friday with bid dinner night.  Everyone who was extended a bid to join our Phi Kappa Theta was invited to the fraternity house for a dinner prepared by current brothers.

Formal Initiation: September 27, 2014

This past Saturday, the Pennsylvania Iota chapter of Phi Kappa Theta at Temple University held a formal initiation ceremony for our newest brothers.  The ceremony took place at the historic Saint Michael Church of Philadelphia where thirteen new Phi Kaps officially swore an oath to our brotherhood.  Jorge Orellana, Jon Christian, Griffin Morrow, Scott Jones, Brendan Walshe, Ben Peters, Justin Discigil, Mark Colbert, Nick Pavone, Khanrad Lamont, James Worthington, Mike Dennis, and Alexander Smigo are now forever bonded together in brotherhood through Phi Kappa Theta.  These men took part in our historic ritual which has remained the same for over a century.  Our chapter will look to the newly initiated to carry out the ideals of the Phi, the Kappa, and the Theta and to also assume the responsibility of securing the bright future for our great fraternity.
